City Nature Challenge 2026
April 24th, 4:00-6:00pm
Dragonfly Trailhead, Arenas Valley, NM
Hike the Dragonfly Trail with local naturalists to see what species live within the dry plains and pine-juniper habitats of Grant County. If the creek is flowing, we will see who is flocking to this water source. Along the way, we will discuss how to identify animal signs (footprints, scat, and maybe bones), listen for birdcalls, and appreciate the abundance of desert wildflowers that bloom during wet springs.
Accessibility: This 3.5 mile loop trail is mostly packed dirt and sand. Half of the trail is flat and wide; narrow path, uneven surfaces, and multiple slope changes throughout the other half. Little to no shade on trail. Wheelchair-accessible vault toilets at trailhead. No drinking water available.
April 24th, 6:30pm-onward
Open Space Brewing 11990 US 180 Santa Clara, NM 88026
After the hike, meet back at Open Space Brewing to celebrate the start of 2026 City Nature Challenge! We'll share our best photos, play some games, and enjoy a drink in the company of fellow naturalists.
